During the process of developing the Kiri game for the PG02 Cycle 1 ‘Accomplices’ brief, there were some variations that weren’t incorporated in the final game, but I thought might be interesting to note for future development.
One previous idea for the game was as follows:
The aim of the game is to encourage people to plant new trees / seeds / plants in ‘restricted’ areas (based on a near-future where all land is privately owned). So private citizens planting seeds anywhere is now a crime.
By growing trees / seeds, the plants and planters can connect with each other and begin to reclaim the land where not enough plant life is growing to sustain the planet.
The Accomplice brings back seeds from Mars / Future Planet which grow more quickly and larger than Earth plants. Would be interesting to design and 3D print these ‘Future Planet’ flowers.
As the networks connect, each team / player has access to more seeds and can cross-pollinate newer, better seeds and plants. These networks may connect only via the augmented reality part of the game, invisible to the players until they discover it (the markers might be the only clue to its existence).
The aim of this game is to breed new plant varieties by working with other teams, thus replanting the Earth and encouraging diversity.
Locations – set locations on Google Maps, eg. parks, specific trees, private spaces. The game could be played outside, on large boards or street markings.
The game players plant actual (or genetically modified / ‘biohacked’) seeds and sign-in at the various locations with hand gestures to their camera phones. Air or light paintings.
